But as a teenager, Becky says she often wrestled with wanting to follow Jesus and the constant temptations of instead, following the “in” crowd in her small town.“Other kids my age were going to parties and drinking and I really struggled with wanting to be a part of all that and staying true to what I knew God wanted for me. During those teenage years, I was really walking two walks, depending on who I was with. I acted one way when I was with my friends at parties, and another way when I was with my family or people from my church.”
Eventually, Becky felt she had a choice to make, and she says it was by God’s grace that she eventually made a conscience decision to commit to following Him. “It is so easy to get pulled away from what you know is true and right and I’m just thankful God pulled me back,” Becky said.
Since then, Becky has developed a real passion for ministering to others and demonstrating ways we can all set ourselves apart and have a good time doing it.
“I’ve just always wanted others to know that being a Christian isn’t just about obeying a bunch of boring rules,” she said. “Christians can have a lot of fun, too!”
A member of Crete Berean Church, Becky and her husband, Jamie, and their three children often volunteer their time to help with special events and outreach opportunities at Crete Berean Church such as Vacation Bible School, the Fall Festival, and the Children’s Easter Egg Hunt.
Becky says these special outreach events are important to her because it gives people who may not otherwise grace the doorsteps of a church, a real opportunity to see what God’s love is all about.
“I like to see that seeds are being planted in children and families in our community,” Becky says. “It is amazing to see the numbers of kids who come to these events and hopefully we’re showing them how much they are loved by us and by God and at the same time – showing them how much fun it is to be a Christian.” |
